Prize awarder for the Nobel Prize in Physics, the Nobel Prize in Chemistry and the Prize in Economic Sciences

The Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences is responsible for selecting the Nobel Prize laureates in physics and in chemistry and the laureates in economic sciences.

By the terms of Alfred Nobel’s will the Nobel Prizes in Physics and Chemistry have been awarded by the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences since 1901.

Since 1969, the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences awards the Sveriges Riksbank Prize in Memory of Alfred Nobel.

The Academy was founded in 1739 and has today about 440 Swedish and 175 foreign members. Membership in the Academy constitutes exclusive recognition of successful research achievements. The Academy appoints members of the Nobel Committees, the working bodies, for a three-year term.
