Elea Giménez Toledo is director of the Center for Human and Social Sciences Center at CSIC and a tenured scientist at the Institute of Philosophy at the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC).
Hartmut Michel is a German biochemist who at age 40 received the Nobel Prize in Chemistry in 1988 together with Johann Deisenhofer and Robert Huber “for the determination of the three-dimensional structure of a photosynthetic reaction centre“. They were the first to succeed in unravelling the full picture of how a membrane protein is built up.
Eva Ortega-Paino has a PhD in chemistry (biochemistry and molecular biology) from the Complutense University of Madrid, completing her doctoral thesis at the Immunology Department at Ramón y Cajal Hospital in Madrid.
Ardem Patapoutian is a molecular biologist specialising in sensory transduction. His research has led to the identification of novel ion channels and receptors activated by temperature, mechanical force, and increased cell volume.
Diplomat and ambassador, he has been Director General of the Ramón Areces Foundation since 2008. Previously, his professional career was spent in the Foreign Service of Spain.
Adam Smith is Chief Scientific Officer for Nobel Prize Outreach. His background is in scientific research and science publishing.
